Jesus.
Jesus. Period. That was the heart-cry of a youth movement started over a decade ago by Andy Gilbert, youth pastor at Faith Center in Eugene Oregon.
I like it. No, actually, I love it. I long to stop complicating everything and return to simple obedience and simple devotion to Jesus.
This weekend, I’m going to teach on what it looks like to be a friend of Jesus. Let me give you a preview: It’s not complicated. It’s like being friends with anyone else: Time and talking are key elements. Not in a religious HGH “I-did-my-devotions-and-checked-off-my-little-box” kind of way (though I’m not judging that—I have my boxes to check off to keep me on course), but because we really like to hang out with Jesus and talk to HIm and hear Him talk to us.
And how do we learn how to do that? Here is another preview: We stop looking at the Bible like a textbook and start embracing it as a prayer-book.
My outline fell a part as I studied for the sermon. It’s going to be pretty raw. But also pretty honest.
I can’t wait!
